PMLA court rejects Hemant Sorena bail plea

A special PMLA court here on Monday rejected former Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Sorens bail plea in an alleged land grab linked money laundering case in which he was arrested on January 31, official sources said. In a linked development, the Supreme Court on Monday sought the Enforcement Directorates response by May 17 on Sorens plea, challenging his arrest in this money laundering case. Soren, in his plea before the apex court, had challenged the May 3 order of the Jharkhand High Court dismissing his petition against the arrest. He had also sought interim bail to campaign in the Lok Sabha elections till the court delivered its verdict. A special Prevention of Money Laundering Act court in Ranchi dismissed Sorens bail plea on Monday. Soren, a senior JMM leader, was arrested by the ED on January 31 under allegation that he illegally acquired an 8.86 acre land in Ranchi with the hel... It is noteworthy that Hemant Soren was arrested by ED on 31 January 2024 after a long interrogation. ED has so far arrested many people including former Chief Minister Hemant Soren in this case related to land scam. All the accused are currently lodged in Hotwar (Birsa Munda Central Jail). In this case, within 60 days of the arrest of former Chief Minister Hemant Soren, on March 30, ED has filed the special court charge sheet of PMLA. In which former Chief Minister Hemant Soren, suspended Deputy Revenue Officer Bhanu Pratap Prasad, Architect Binod Singh, Rajkumar Pahan and Hilarius Kachhap have been made chargesheeted accused. Out of which Hilarius Kachhap has died.   After completion of the remand period, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) team presented Minister Alamgir Alams PS Sanjeev Lal and his assistant Jahangir in the court. Both were arrested last Monday. After presenting both of them in the special court of Ranchi PMLA (Prevention of Money Laundering Act), the agency again sought their remand for questioning. Accepting which the court has extended the remand of both of them for five days. Let us tell you here that ED had recovered Rs 35.23 crore in cash from the house of Sanjeev Lals assistant Jahangir. Three crore rupees were recovered from the house of builder Munna Singh, close to Sanjeev Lal. In the same case, agency minister Alamgir Alam has also been summoned for questioning.
